My First Tomato Sandwich of the Summer

As you know, I grew up on a farm - and by farm, we raised and slaughtered our own meats, grew all the veggies, had chickens for eggs (and fried chicken or course). So breakfast was WONDERFUL mom would fix breakfast for my daddy and the other men working with him that day and it always consisted of. Eggs, bacon AND sausage, biscuits and gravy, grits, homemade jelly and jam and usually homemade peach and/or pear preserves - strawberry if we had a good season the year before, fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and cantaloupe from the garden and of course, fresh butter! Needless to say, my 'big girl' status - is well earned HA! So all day every day we ate tomatoes they were cut up and served with every meal during the summer and we would eat them like apples from the garden, when we could sneak past the grown ups. (When I say 'we' I'm referring to my cousins, who all came to the farm from TN and MS to help garden and bail hay.)

Now to the present, I am scared TO DEATH or worms (any variety) and frogs! That being said, I don't dig in the dirt or grow any thing b/c their could be a caterpillar or inch worm or GOD FORBID an earth worm -IIICCCCCKKKK!!!!! =( But I miss miss miss fresh veggies, especially tomatoes (and corn to - but don't get me started about freakin corn worms OMG). So my most wonderful friend Tammy brought me the fantastic 2 tomatoes so I can make tomato sandwiches! YAY ME!!! So I stopped by the store and bought a fresh, soft loaf of bread and also nabbed a jar of Hellman's - add a salt shaker and ITS ON!!!

So - Ive just eaten 2 sandwiches and BOY HOWDY they rock! I look forward to eating at least one tomato sandwich every summer but I forget just how WONDERFUL they are! Tangy and sweet OH MY! THANK YOU TAMMY!!!!!!
And I would love to just let you go ahead and think the Hercules plate is one of the kids, but it is, in fact, mine.....what can I say?! Tally Ho!

Nothing like the taste of summer tomatoes! Ours aren't doing too well this year though, so I'm not sure we'll get many of our own homegrown...but we try! Thanks so much for visiting. Happy weekend ((HUGS))
